Is My Lawn Suitable for a Flymo Robotic Lawnmower 1200R?

The Flymo Robotic Lawnmower 1200R is suitable for almost any type of garden, as long as it meets the minimum specification of the products.

Below are the most frequently asked questions, that are asked by our customers when purchasing a Flymo Robotic Mower.

Q. What is the maximum area the 1200R can cut?

The Flymo Robotic Lawnmower can cut lawns up to 400m2 +/-20% (approx 1 acre), depending on the complexity of your garden.

Q. What is the maximum incline of slopes the 1200R can cut?

The Flymo Robotic Lawnmower 1200R can cut lawns on slopes up to 25%. At the perimeter wire, the maximum incline allowed is 10%.

Q. How narrow can the passages in my garden be?

The minimum passage the Flymo robot mower can pass through is 150cm (wall to wall). This ensures that the robotic mower can easily reach the areas on both sides of the passage.

Q. My lawn is uneven, can the 1200R cope?

Because of the large driving wheels on the robot lawnmower, the lawn does not have to be totally flat to cut the grass. However, sharp/deep holes should be avoided, and filled with soil to get an even surface in order to avoid your robot mower from getting stuck.

Q. Will I still need an ordinary lawnmower?

No, normally you don’t need an ordinary lawnmower anymore. In the event that the grass along the edges of your lawn is uncut, we recommend you use a grass trimmer to tidy the edges of your lawn.

Q. What about pine cones, tree branches and fruit on the ground?

If the robotic lawnmower ‘bumps’ into these, it will stop and cut the lawn in another direction. To avoid unnecessary stoppages and to maximise the robot lawn mowers performance and the life of the robotic mower blades, these types of objects should be raked or collected regularly. They are unlikely to damage the robotic lawnmower but reduce its overall performance.

Q. How does the 1200R handle very long grass?

If the grass is very long and thick, at your first start up, you should raise the cutting height and then gradually reduce it to the preferred level. In normal operation a robotic lawnmower does not need to cut long grass since it continuously maintains a well cut lawn. When starting out, if the grass is extremely long the robot mower may struggle to cut the grass. In this instance, its recommended that you first cut the grass with a lawnmower or grass trimmer before installing the robotic.

Q. Will the 1200R cut in rainy conditions?

Yes. The Flymo robot lawn mower is weather proof and can cut the grass in the rain. However, it is recommended that you bring the robotic mower inside in extreme weather conditions, such as torrential rain and storms. If thunder storms are expected, you should disconnect all wires to the charging station.
